Our Roots in Alaska Native Ownership
Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs) were established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 to resolve land claims and promote the long-term well-being of Alaska Native communities. Huna Totem Corporation—parent company of HunaTek—was formed through ANCSA with 876 original shareholders from the village of Hoonah. Today, it is owned by more than 1,450 shareholders and stands among Alaska’s most successful village corporations.
Grounded in stewardship, sustainability, and shared prosperity, Huna Totem creates value for its shareholders through education, cultural investment, economic opportunity, and community development. Through its HunaTek subsidiaries, the corporation extends this mission into the federal space—delivering professional services that honor its heritage while advancing national priorities.
Where the ANC 8(a) Program Stands Today
The ANC 8(a) program continues to be a critical driver of small business development and economic opportunity, particularly through the participation of Alaska Native Corporations. Backed by Congressional mandate and long-standing legal precedent, the program supports the federal mission by enabling streamlined, cost-effective procurement with proven contractors. These partnerships generate business growth, create high-value jobs across the country, and provide agile, accountable services for U.S. government agencies. The result is a procurement pathway that aligns business development with national priorities.
